How will Brexit effect Data Regulations

12th July 2016 – Following the EU referendum, speculation concerning the impact that the result will have on UK industry is rife and database marketing is no exception. With the new ‘General Data Protection Regulation’ (GDPR) due to come into effect in 2018 the key question is whether The UK data laws will fall in line with how Europe manages data protection or will we stand apart from some of the restrictions that GDPR will place on B2B marketing. Comments from the DMA suggest that EU membership will ultimately not make too much difference, after leaving the EU it will be necessary to put a trading relationship in place with the remaining EU member states and for that to work it is likely that UK data regulations will have to form a part of that agreement.
Only time will tell what the future holds for the UK’s relationship with Europe, what is clear from the recent trends of Cardwell clients is that there remains a high demand to reach customers overseas so maintaining a strong trading partnership will be essential.
